History Of Cave Hotels

For centuries, the people of Cappadocia have taken advantage of the regions soft volcanic rock which can be easily carved to create underground structures such as cave dwellings, churches, and montesarsies.

As tourism to the area increased, entrepreneurs took advantage of the abandoned cave dwelling and in the 1980’s began offering small scale accommodations. In the years that followed, as popularity increased, more cave hotels began being developed to blend modern comforts with the unique cave architecture.

Today, there are over 200 cave hotels in the area. With so many to choose from, we’ve narrowed down the best based on personal experience as well as reading countless number of reviews.

We’ve compiled a list of our top recommendations for every type of traveler from the budget traveler, solo traveler, and those looking to splurge!
